Timur Khodzhaev

Compositing Supervisor / Lead / Senior

I began my visual effects career in early 90s. Started as a 3D Generalist artist working on my own short film at first, but then quickly transitioned to doing freelance work for commercials and motion design for TV. In early 2000s I moved to Moscow to work on my first feature film “Turkish Gambit”. After working on a multiple feature projects I started to feel that I’m more passionate about image integration and compositing and decided to focus my expertise on compositing exclusively. Even though I haven’t practiced any of my 3D skills recently, I always find my previous experience to be very helpful in my work with Nuke.
Through my career I was extremely lucky to be around most talented and inspiring people who helped me grow and develop into professional I am today.

Over the last decade I was working mostly in stop motion animation studios as a Senior and then Lead Compositor.
I started working at Laika at 2013 during “The Boxtrolls” and before that was working at Aardman animations. I found my home here at Laika and worked on all films since 2013.
All three films I worked on at Laika were received very well by a multiple awards and festivals. I am very happy and proud not only for being a part of the team that was recognized, but also that I was personally recognized and nominated for a multiple esteemed awards such as VES and Annie Awards, reflecting my talent and impact in the industry.

Currently I work as a Lead Compositor on the “Wildwood”. I really enjoy what we do at Laika, but I’m also always open to a new opportunities and adventures.

Beyond my work as a compositor, I like to develop tools and templates for Nuke.
This site is an attempt to promote and share some of the best practices and tools I use in my work with a wider audience and a new generation of talented artists.
